Catch this timeless classic in Reno, Tahoe or Carson city Sept. 22nd – August 6th
Reno / Tahoe – July 22, 2022 – Sierra Nevada Ballet presents ballet’s most famous full-length story dance drama, Swan Lake, at 7:30 PM at the Eldorado Hotel and Casino in Reno on July 22nd, 2022; at the Sand Harbor venue on Lake Tahoe on July 25th, 2022, as part of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival and at the Carson City Community Center on August 6th, 2022.
This full-length dramatic love story with roots in reality as well as fantasy tests the character of the hero, Prince Sigfried, as he matures into manhood. An avid hunter, Sigfried encounters Odette, the Princess turned into a Swan by evil sorcery, and his life is altered forever. The ballet traces the struggle of Sigfried through a series of exciting encounters ending dramatically in a fierce battle.
A timeless story filled with drama, sorcery, seduction, bravery and devotion with a strong message, Swan Lake is one of the earliest ballets and highlights the human struggle between the pure love of the soul and the seductive attraction of worldly life.
SNB’s version of Swan Lake is choreographed by Artistic Director, Rosine Bena, who gained her reputation as a “dancing actress” particularly for her portrayal of the tragic heroines, Giselle and Odette during her 28-year professional ballet career.
Bena’s new versions of the classics have become popular with 21st-century audiences.
“I am determined to present classical ballet designed to appeal to a more modern audience. Our world is a great deal faster-paced than life was in the 1800’s when Swan Lake was first choreographed,” said Bena. “The ballet was originally done in four acts but modern audiences find that long. Our new design combines shortened versions of each act enabling the production to be presented as a full-length story in two acts.”
Sierra Nevada Ballet’s Swan Lake features a cast of wonderful professional dancers headed by Oklahoma City Ballet’s Deyoung Jung as Odette/Odile; Alejandro Gonzalez as Prince Sigfried; and Domingo Rubio (SNB/Joffrey Ballet) as the evil Von Rothbart.
Complete with sets, stunning costumes, and a cast of 30, SNB’s Swan Lake is a MUST SEE for the northern Nevada Community.
Versatile and innovative, Sierra Nevada Ballet is northern Nevada’s professional ballet company and incorporates the popular with the experimental. For more information about this event call (775) 360-8663.
